Welcome all! I am Mrs. Beatty and I spent my summer working in a DNA genetics lab at NC State. Afterwards, I went for 5 days to Panama and El Salvador exploring the biodiversity of its volcanoes and wildlife. Over Thanksgiving, I visited Kenya and Botswana, photographing the Great Rift Valley and wildlife preserves.
My first job was at a publishing house in downtown Detroit editing and writing science articles. To escape the city, I led an 18 person expedition to Glacier National Park to repair trails.
I next moved to NC to work at UNC Chapel Hill and raise 2 children in WCPSS schools. In 2007 I earned my Teaching Certificate from NC State and also completed coursework for a Masters in Counseling.
My favorite things to do are travel, hike to explore natural wonders, and inspire curiosity about science with my students. Here are my Top 12 Countries: India, Malaysia (Borneo), Morocco, Israel, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Peru, China, Turkey, Kenya, Greece.
Trainings: National Institute of Health Professional Development for Educators Summer Program; Science Teachers Symposium in Greensboro; Gender Issues Counseling; Cultural Conflict with Kiran; Crisis Response with DCRC.
